Origin and history

The medieval complex of Pignan is a monument located in the town of Pignan, in the Occitan region. This site, dated from the medieval period, bears witness to the local history and architecture typical of this period. Although the available sources remain internal and little detailed, its existence illustrates the importance of medieval constructions in this region of southern France.

In the Middle Ages, medieval ensembles like Pignan played a central role in the lives of local communities. They often served as places of assembly, defence or power, while reflecting the economic and social activities of the time. In Occitanie, this period was marked by feudal organization, dynamic trade and architecture adapted to the needs of the population.
