Origin and history

Puicheric Pyramid is a monument located in the municipality of Puicheric, in the department of Aude. This monument, dating from the second half of the eighteenth century, is distinguished by its architectural style and inscriptions. It has been listed as historic monuments since 1952, highlighting its local heritage importance.

The pyramid would have been used to define the boundaries between the ancient dioceses of Carcassonne and Narbonne. Puicheric then depended on the diocese of Carcassonne. The structure, 4.43 metres high, rests on a monolithic square-section base. An inscription on the south side of the base indicates: "path de Carcassonne à Béziers", engraved in capital letters. The mouldings and stylistic details suggest a realization in the 18th century.

The monument consists of a base surmounted by a plinth, a net and a partially degraded crown. The pyramid itself, also monolithic, rests on this base. All sides, with the exception of the one bearing the inscription, are anepigraphs. The pyramid is located on the northern edge of National Highway 610, making it a visible landmark for travellers of the time.
