Origin and history
The House Place des Halles in Champlitte is an emblematic building of the city, built in the 3rd quarter of the 16th century, more precisely around 1573, as indicated by an inscription on its facade. This L-shaped plan building is distinguished by its vaulted cradle basement and a screw staircase tower, partly in corbellation, which animates the main facade. The two upper levels have triple bays, characteristic of Renaissance architecture, reflecting the artistic influence of the period.
The southern facade, decorated with this Renaissance decor, is considered one of the most remarkable of Champlitte. It illustrates the economic and cultural prosperity of the city in the 16th century, a time when Burgundy-Franche-Comté enjoyed a commercial and artisanal dynamism. The monument, registered with the Historical Monuments since 2004, is now owned by the municipality. Its architecture combines functionality (housing, storage) and aesthetics, typical of bourgeois houses of the time.
The official address, Place des Halles, places the building in the heart of the city, a strategic location that suggests its importance in local life, probably related to commercial or administrative activities. The GPS coordinates available also place the monument near Rue du Surgien Boy, confirming its anchoring in the historic urban fabric. No information is available on its current use (visits, rentals, etc.).
