Origin and history

The arcade house of Beaumont-en-Argonne is a historic monument located in Place Principale, in the department of Ardennes (08), in the Grand Est region. This building, whose origins date back to the 15th and 18th centuries, illustrates the civil architecture of these periods. Its facades and roofs, protected by a decree of 28 February 1927, testify to its heritage importance.

The location of this monument, at the heart of Place Principale, suggests a central role in Beaumont-en-Argonne's community life. In medieval and modern times, arcade houses often served as places of trade or residence for local notables. Their architecture reflected the prosperity and social organization of the cities of this region, marked by artisanal and agricultural activities.

The inscription of the Historical Monuments in 1927 preserved the remarkable elements of this house, including its facades and roof. This protection is part of a desire to preserve built heritage, typical of the cultural policies of the early twentieth century in France. Today, this monument remains a tangible testimony to the architectural and urban history of Beaumont-en-Argonne.

Available data from sources such as Monumentum indicate that the accuracy of its location is considered fair (note 5/10). An approximate address, 1 Place Guillaume de Champagne, is also mentioned, although the official address registered in the Mérimée base is simply 'place Principale'.
