Origin and history

The estate of Neuvic d'Ussel Castle extends over 6 hectares in the centre of Neuvic, in Corrèze. It includes a house rebuilt in the 19th century, outbuildings and a landscaped agricultural park, labeled "remarkable garden" since 2007. This estate entered the family of Ussel in 1808, on the occasion of the marriage of Jean-Jacques d'Ussel and Henriette du Giraudeix, heiress of a "large house with pavilions" and a park of about 5 hectares.

In 1822, a fire destroyed the home and a large part of the village. The couple's son, Jean-Hyacinthe (known as Alfred) d'Ussel, inherited the estate in 1831 and began its reconstruction. He built the house in a sober style and redesigned the park by keeping existing species, such as a Virginia tulip tree planted in 1817 and a purple beech from 1820. Passionate about agriculture and forestry, he set up a school farm there in 1849.

The restoration of the park continues with the help of landscaper Laurent Berthelier. The estate, whose facades, roofs, walls and gates have been protected since 2018, reflects the agricultural and landscape heritage of the Haute-Corrèze. The park, always open to visit, bears witness to this family and local history.

The site is listed in the Historical Monuments by order of 2 July 2018, covering the buildings of the estate as well as the park with its enclosure wall and portals, located Place de la Mairie. The parcels concerned are listed in the cadastre under numbers 131 to 136, 138, 146 and 436, section BC.
