Origin and history

The Farm of Poneaux, located in Montreuil-sur-Brêche in the Oise (Hauts-de-France), is an architectural complex dating from the 17th century. This monument is distinguished by its entrance flanked by two towers, as well as by its agricultural buildings, including a barn and a hangar. These elements, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 25 November 1969, illustrate the rural architecture of this period and testify to the importance of agricultural holdings in the region.

The site includes several protected structures: the entrance with its towers, the building on the left when entering, the barn and an agricultural building forming hangar on the ground floor. These elements, referenced under Cadastre D 144, reflect a typical organization of the farms of the time, designed to combine functionality and defense. The precise location of the farm, at 41 Rue du Cayen, is documented in the Mérimée base, with geographical accuracy considered very satisfactory (note 8/10).

Montreuil-sur-Brêche, attached to the Oise department (code Insee 60425), is part of a territory marked by a rural and artisanal history. In the 17th century, farms like Poneaux played a central role in the local economy, serving both as a place of agricultural production and as a gathering point for peasant communities. Their architecture, often robust and defensive, met the needs for crop protection and storage in a context of precious resources and frequent conflicts.
