Origin and history
The Hospital des Enfermés de Pontoise, located in the town of the same name in Île-de-France, dates from the second half of the eighteenth century. This monument, now classified, bears witness to the hospitable architecture of the period, with remarkable elements such as its entrance gate and a stone stalactite fountain, placed under protection by the Historical Monuments.
The establishment, whose exact location is attested to at 85 rue Basse (or 84 rue Pierre Butin according to geographical sources), was the subject of two successive inscriptions: the first in 1939 for its portal and fountain, the second in 1954 for its facade on street and roof. Owned by the municipality of Pontoise, it illustrates the evolution of care structures and confinement under the Old Regime, although its precise use and detailed history are not explicitly documented in available sources.
The accuracy of its location is assessed as poor (note 5/10), possibly reflecting urban changes or cartographic uncertainties. The internal data and the Merimée database clearly link it to the Val-d No information is provided on its current accessibility (visits, rental) or conservation status.
