Origin and history
The Town Hall of Port-Louis is a public building located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Morbihan, Brittany. This building, whose facades and roofs are protected under the Historic Monuments, embodies the local administrative architecture. Its registration by decree of 13 November 1945 underlines its heritage importance, although the details of its construction or evolution remain little documented in the available sources.
Port-Louis, a Breton port city, has long been marked by maritime and commercial activities, notably thanks to its strategic position on the Atlantic coast. Town halls, as places of local power, played a central role in the social and administrative organisation of the municipalities. This type of monument often reflects municipal history and urban transformation, although the archives specific to this building do not allow to accurately trace its context of creation or its historical uses.
