Pregnant person (Case ZD 9): entry by order of 28 December 1994

Origin and history

The enclosure of La Chassagne is a classified historical monument, representing a typical example of medieval defensive architecture. Built in the 13th century, it consists of a fossilized double ditch system designed to protect the old castle. The latter was first mentioned in the sources in 1242, attesting to its seniority and strategic role in the region.

The site, now owned by the commune, was registered in the Historical Monuments by order of 28 December 1994. Although its exact location is considered "passable" (note 5/10) in the databases, it remains an important testimony of fortification techniques in Franche-Comté. The enclosure, referenced under the ZD 9 cadastre, illustrates the evolution of defensive systems in a rural area marked by feudal conflicts.

The region, then integrated into the county of Burgundy (Franche-Comté), was a territory disputed between kingdoms and local seigneuries. Premises such as La Chassagne served both as protection for the people and as a symbol of power for the lords. Their construction reflected the political and military tensions of the time, while meeting practical needs to control the lines of communication or resources.
