Facades and roofs (Case S 65): entry by order of 12 December 1975

Origin and history

Bry-sur-Marne Presbytery is a historic monument built in the 17th century. This building, typical of the religious buildings of the time, was designed to house the parish priest and serve as a place for managing local ecclesiastical affairs. Its architecture reflects the functional needs and aesthetic codes of this period, marked by a social organization strongly influenced by the Church.

In the 18th century, the presbytery underwent notable changes with the addition of chimneys and a balcony, characteristic elements of the evolution of lifestyles and construction techniques. These improvements illustrate a desire to improve the comfort and prestige of the building, in a context where presbyteries played a central role in community life. The facades and roofs, protected by a decree of 12 December 1975, now bear witness to this double influence of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Located at 4 Grande-Rue in Bry-sur-Marne, Val-de-Marne, this presbytery is now owned by an association. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments underlines its heritage importance, although its exact location is considered satisfactory a priori (note 6/10). The building, visible through tools like Street View, remains a tangible testimony to the religious and architectural history of the Île-de-France.
