Facade on street and corresponding roof slope; portal (Case C 22): registration by order of 16 August 1958

Origin and history

The Saint-Pierre de Montsort Presbytery is a building located in Alençon, Orne department, Normandy. Built in 1639, it is an old hotel whose facade features granite bosses and pediment windows. To the left of this façade is a gate in the middle of the hanger, dated 1710, crowned with a curved pediment. This building would have served as a presbytery for the former church of Monsort, now adjacent to Saint Peter's church in the south.

The architecture of the building is marked by elements typical of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, with particular attention to the facade on street and its roof slope. These elements, as well as the portal, were listed under the Historic Monuments on 16 August 1958. The building is now owned by the municipality of Alençon.

The precise location of the presbytery is at 37 rue du Mans (formerly 25), and it is referenced in the Merimée base under the code INSEE 61001. Although its state of conservation and accessibility are not detailed, its listing as a Historic Monument demonstrates its heritage importance in the region of Basse-Normandie (now Normandy).
