Origin and history
Moncontour Presbytery is a historical monument in the municipality of Moncontour, Brittany. Built in the 17th century, it is a typical example of the presbyteries of this period, often associated with the religious and social organization of rural or urban parishes. Its architecture reflects the functional needs of priests, while integrating stylistic elements characteristic of the century.
This type of building played a central role in local life, serving both as a residence for the clergy and as a place to manage parish affairs. In the 17th century, Brittany, marked by a strong religious identity, saw its presbyteries become symbols of ecclesiastical authority in cities such as Moncontour, where daily life was rhythmic by agricultural, artisanal and religious practices. The facades and roofs of the presbytery, protected since 1926, bear witness to this heritage importance.
The presbytery is now owned by an association, suggesting a contemporary cultural or community vocation. Although its access to the public (visits, rental, accommodation) is not specified, its location in the city centre, at 6 rue des Dames, and its status as a Historic Monument make it a key element of the local heritage. The accuracy of its geographic location is estimated to be "passible", indicating a moderate knowledge of its exact location in current databases.
