Origin and history
La Prévoté de Labeuvrere is a historical monument located in the commune of Labeuvrere, in the department of Pas-de-Calais (Hauts-de-France). Built in the fourth quarter of the 16th century, this building is distinguished by its facades, roofs, its wall of enclosure with four turrets, and its gate. These elements were protected by a registration order of 27 May 1975, highlighting their heritage value. The monument is now owned by the municipality.
The location of the Prevote is specified in the Merimée base at the address Rue Léonard-Michaux, although GPS coordinates suggest a proximity to the Church Square. The accuracy of this location is considered satisfactory a priori (note 7/10). No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rental, accommodation), but its status as communal property suggests a public or administrative vocation.
The sixteenth century in the Hauts-de-France, then integrated into the Spanish and then French Netherlands, was marked by political and religious tensions, as well as by the development of local institutions. Provosts, often linked to the seigneurial or judicial administration, played a key role in the territorial organisation. This type of building reflected both the local power and the defensive needs of the period, with architectural elements such as the enclosure walls and turrets, typical of the constructions of this period.
