Origin and history
The Prévoté de Châtillon-sur-Saône is a historical monument dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Located in the Vosges department, in the Grand Est region, this building is emblematic of the civil architecture of this period. The building, now owned by an association, keeps in particular an old attic, classified by ministerial decree in 1984.
The attic of the Prévoté, registered under the Historic Monuments on December 5, 1984, is the protected element of the site. Although the available sources do not specify its initial use in detail, this type of structure was generally linked to agricultural resource management or local administrative functions. The location of Prêvoté at 6 Rue du Presbytère suggests a possible link with the religious or community institutions of Châtillon-sur-Saône.
The historical data available remain limited, but Prévoté illustrates the role of civilian buildings in the social and economic organization of the small Lorrainen communes in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. These buildings often served as places of storage, meeting or justice, reflecting the gradual centralization of local power. Their preservation offers an overview of the rural dynamics of the period, marked by a mainly agricultural and artisanal economy.
