Façades, roofs and murals of the eastern gable of the old chapel (Box AB 392): inscription by order of 24 July 1985

Origin and history

The priory of Pesmes is a religious building built during the second quarter of the 16th century. Located in the commune of Pesmes, in Haute-Saône, it illustrates the Christian architecture of this period in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Ranked as historical monuments in 1985, it bears witness to the local religious heritage and its importance in regional history.

The priory, whose facades, roofs and murals of the old chapel are protected, reflects the art and spirituality of the Renaissance. At that time, priories played a central role in community life, serving as places of worship, reception and management of surrounding lands. Their presence also marked the influence of religious orders in the Burgundy and Franchise countryside.
