Origin and history

The property of Boisvilliers, located at 39 rue de Paris in Saint-Denis (La Réunion), is a Creole square representative of 19th-century bourgeois houses. Built in the second half of the 19th century, it illustrates the architectural style typical of the local elites of the time, mixing Creole and European influences. The building, with its fence wall and outbuildings, was added to the additional inventory of Historic Monuments on March 29, 1996.

Today, the house houses Villa Angélique, a four-star hotel-restaurant opened since 2011. This redevelopment reflects the conversion of the historical heritage of Réunion into spaces dedicated to tourism and luxury accommodation. Registration for the Historic Monuments covers not only the house, but also its garden, outbuildings and the fence wall overlooking the streets of Paris and Roland-Garros.

Saint-Denis, capital of La Réunion, concentrated in the 19th century a prosperous bourgeoisie, often linked to sugar or commercial activities. Creole boxes like Boisvilliers reflected this social status, with reception spaces and gardens. Their preservation allows us today to understand the urban and architectural evolution of the island, between colonial heritage and tourist modernity.
