Origin and history

The well of Locmerin-des-Prés is a 17th-century building located at the "Locmeren-des-Prés" site, in the commune of Grand-Champ, Morbihan, in Britain. It is close to the chapel of Locméren and 500 metres from the chapel of Notre-Dame de Burgo. His name, often poorly translated into "Locmerin", is explained by a particular local pronunciation, as highlighted in the historical monuments sheet. This shaft, of cylindrical shape, is constructed of a bell and has a margin surmounted by a triangular pediment resting on two trapus pillars, adorned with mouldings and doves. A winch, hidden under this pediment, completes its functional and aesthetic architecture.

The well was listed as historic monuments on 20 March 1934, a protection that was abrogated by an order of 31 July 2015. This administrative decision marks a change of status for this monument, without the sources specifying the exact reasons for its repeal. No other detailed historical or architectural information is available regarding its past use or role in the local community, although its proximity to chapels suggests a link to religious or community practices of the time.
