Origin and history

The Audincthun V1 pumping station was built in 1943 by the Germans as part of their V1 launch site programme. These "heavy sites" required a very clean water supply, a condition fulfilled by a local source. The station, consisting of a technical room and a building housing the pump, was responsible for transporting this water to the nearby firing site. Its architecture and equipment, remarkably preserved, make it a unique testimony of this period.

In 1944, the launch site was completely destroyed by bombardments, but the pump station, spared, continued to operate to supply the village with water until 1976. This building, now protected under the Historic Monuments (registration in 2012), is distinguished by the rarity of its type and integrity of its original pumping system. He illustrates both German military engineering and his post-war civilian re-employment.

Located along Departmental Road 133, the resort is now owned by a mixed (municipal and private) company. Its exceptional state of conservation, coupled with its history of World War II, makes it a major industrial and memorial heritage of the Hauts-de-France. The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory, with an official address registered at the Mérimée database under the code Insee 62053 (Pas-de-Calais).
