Origin and history

The Quartier Dubois-Thainville is a complex of buildings located in Joigny, in the department of l'Yonne in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built in the 18th century, it illustrates the civil and military architecture of this period, with a central facade decorated with a carved pediment. This monument was partially inscribed in historical monuments by order of 24 October 1929, thus recognizing its heritage value.

Throughout its history, the area served as a military barracks, home to the 1st Dragon Regiment between 1897 and 1914. After this period, it was converted into an administrative city, now hosting Joigny City Hall as well as various public services, such as the Jovinien community of communes, a CPAM branch, La Poste, and a former fire station. This transformation reflects the adaptation of historic buildings to contemporary needs.

The contractor identified for this project is Guillaumot, whose name remains associated with the design of this architectural ensemble. Although only the facade of the central pavilion is protected, the entire site retains symbolic and functional importance for the city. Its current address, 5 Pier of the 1st Dragon, recalls its military past, while anchoring the monument in the current urban landscape.
