Origin and history

The Town Hall of Estaing is a Renaissance-style building built in the early 16th century, between 1520 and 1530, to house six priests serving the chapel of Louradou, located outside the village. This priestly college was founded by Jean Pouget de Carmarans, prior of Cambon, and the community continued until the 18th century. The building, sold as a national property during the Revolution, became communal property in 1956 after a donation. Today, it houses the town hall and tourist office.

The architecture of the building is distinguished by its facades adorned with shrouded windows, a studded door surmounted by a coat of arms of the d-Estaing family (added in the 19th century), and a square tower with a pyramidal roof. The west gable has decorative mâchicoulis, while a carved head crowns the southwest cut strip. Two stone screw stairs serve the floors. The roofs, rebuilt in 1998, and the facades have been protected as historical monuments since 11 August 1975.

Before the Revolution, the house was linked to the chapel of Louradou, built by Jean Pouget de Carmarans. A shield dated 1569, probably later reported, adorns the main door. The building illustrates the religious and civil heritage of Rouergue, marked by successive transformations: sale as a national good, municipal reallocation, and contemporary restorations. Its location, in the heart of the village, makes it a central element of local history.
