Origin and history

The town hall of Saint-Côme-d'Olt occupies an ancient medieval castle mentioned from the thirteenth century as ala of the lords of Calmont d'Olt. In the 14th and 15th centuries, it became the residence of the family of Castelnau-Bretenoux, then passed to the Bourbon-Malauze before being acquired by Jean-Baptiste de Curières, Marquis de Saint-Côme in 1747. The building, modified several times, has cylindrical towers probably added to the 14th century and pierces dated the 16th century.

In 1891, the family of Curières de Castelnau gave the castle to the Marian brothers to found the boarding school Saint-Louis, which was active until 1963. The municipality acquired it in 1970 to become its town hall. A commemorative plaque, affixed in 1955, honours the memory of General Edward de Curières de Castelnau and his family, who died for France. The building, partially classified as a historic monument in 1999, preserves rare decorative remains in its turrets and chapel.

Built in the heart of the urban enclosure, this rectangular house embodies seven centuries of local seigneurial history. Its composite appearance reflects the successive transformations, while its inscription to historical monuments protects its facades, roofs and corner towers. Today, it houses municipal services and remains a symbol of the Rouergat heritage.
