Origin and history
Le regard du Trou-Morin is a hydraulic building located at Pré-Saint-Gervais, in the Seine-Saint-Denis department. Built in the framework of the Eaux du Pré-Saint-Gervais, it was used to bring the sources of the hill to the Priory Saint-Lazare in Paris. This is a typical example of the hydraulic infrastructure of the time, designed to meet the water needs of the capital.
The building was renovated in the 17th century, when the management of the sources was entrusted to the city of Paris. This renovation is part of a period of expansion of urban water systems, aimed at improving the supply of drinking water. The view of Trou-Morin was classified as historical monuments in 1899, recognizing its heritage and architectural importance.
Today, this monument reflects the ingenuity of water management systems in Île-de-France before the arrival of modern networks. It also illustrates the key role of peripheral municipalities such as Le Pré-Saint-Gervais in the water supply of Paris, a major challenge for urban development in the 17th and 18th centuries.
