Origin and history
The wall adjacent to Moschard House is a defensive element integrated into a 15th-century home, located in the medieval village of Peruges. This monument illustrates the military architecture of the time, where ramparts were often associated with houses to strengthen the protection of the villages. Ranked as historical monuments on November 24, 1921, it is one of the remains of this period in the area.
Moschard House, with which the rampart is supported, is located in the department of Ain, in the commune of Peruges. This village, known for its preserved medieval heritage, attracts attention for its typical constructions and its characteristic town planning. The rampart, owned by an association, is located precisely at 296 A rue des Rondes, according to data from the Merimée database.
In the 15th century, ramparts played a crucial role in defending villages against external threats, while structuring urban space. In Peruges, as in other towns in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, these fortifications reflected the community organization and security needs of the time. Their preservation makes it possible today to study the construction techniques and way of life of medieval populations.
