Origin and history
The ramparts of Bourbon-Lancy are the remains of former fortifications located in the commune of Bourbon-Lancy, Saône-et-Loire. These remains, including a wall between the Eperon Gate and a large corner tower, testify to the city's defensive history. They were listed as historical monuments by order of 27 June 1934, highlighting their heritage value.
Bourbon-Lancy, like many medieval cities, was surrounded by ramparts to protect itself from invasions and conflicts. These fortifications played a central role in urban organisation, delimiting the inhabited space and ensuring the safety of the inhabitants. Their presence reflects the strategic importance of the city at a time when feudal tensions and wars were frequent.
Today, these remains offer an overview of the military architecture of the past. Their conservation allows us to study the techniques of construction and the evolution of defensive systems in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Their registration in 1934 guaranteed their preservation for future generations.
