Origin and history

Commarin's repose is a 17th century religious edicle, classified as a Historical Monument in 1942. It rests on a circular base and consists of a triangular penbate supporting three pillars connected by arcades in the middle. A cupola on pendants, surmounted by a cross with titulus wrapped, crown the whole. The pedestal of the cross, adorned with rectangular and circular tables, bears the 1786 vintage, potentially linked to its displacement.

According to the tradition reported by Henri Vincenot, this repose belonged to the seigneur of Aubigny-lès-Sombernon before being assigned to Commarin's after a bet. He served as a stop during the processions of the Feast of God, reflecting his liturgical and community role. Its architecture combines Tuscan elements (pilasters, capitals) and a rare triangular structure, typical of Burgundian votive edicles.

The location of the monument, on the eponymous square of Commarin (Côte d'Or), is attested by the Merimée and Monumentum bases. Although its geographical accuracy is considered poor (level 5/10), its official address is the 5 Place du Reposoir. Communal property since its classification, it bears witness to religious practices and seigneurial exchanges in Burgundy in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
