The front and interior decoration: inscription by order of 23 May 1984
Origin and history
The Restaurant Le Chardenoux, located at 1 rue Jules-Vallès in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, is an architectural and decorative testimony of the Belle Époque. Opened shortly after the piercing of Jules-Vallès Street in 1904, it was initially a café named In the morning. Its interior layout, made around 1909, is distinguished by a large room divided into two spaces by a half-cloison in wood and engraved glass, typical of the fashionable style at the beginning of the twentieth century.
The interior decoration and the front of the Chardenoux were protected by an inscription at the Historic Monuments on May 23, 1984, recognizing their heritage value. This place illustrates the Parisian art of living of the early twentieth century, where cafes and restaurants served as places of sociability and meeting for the inhabitants of the neighborhood.
The location of the restaurant, at the corner of Rue Jules-Vallès, reflects the late Haussmannian urban planning and the transformations of Paris at the turn of the century. Although the sources mention a fair location accuracy (note 5/10), its exact address is confirmed by the Merimée bases and GPS coordinates, ensuring its trace in the Parisian heritage.
