Origin and history
The castle of Boussan, built in the 13th century, is now reduced to some emblematic remains. Among these, a deconstructed square tower and a section of wall belonging to an old house still remain. These elements, though partial, offer an overview of the defensive and residential architecture of the medieval period in this region of southwestern France.
Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 18 November 1926, what remains of the castle is now the property of the commune of Boussan. The location of the site, reported as "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10), places these remains at the approximate address of 68 Les Bayles, in the department of Haute-Garonne. The absence of additional details on its current use (visit, rental, etc.) suggests a mainly heritage and local vocation.
The available data, from sources such as Monumentum and the Merimée database, underline the historical importance of this site without providing any information about its potential occupants or the specific events that take place there. However, the protection it has enjoyed for nearly a century attests to its value as a witness to the medieval past of Occitanie.
