Origin and history

The church of Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses, located in the village of the same name in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is a religious building built in the 12th century. This monument, typical of the Romanesque architecture of the region, bears witness to the importance of places of worship in the social and spiritual organization of medieval rural communities. Its inscription as a Historic Monument by order of 5 May 1926 underlines its heritage value and its role in local history.

In the 12th century, rural churches such as Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses served as a centre for community life, welcoming not only religious offices, but also public gatherings and important events for the inhabitants.
