Château de Lorris (ruines): by order of 11 December 1908
Origin and history
The ruins of Lorris Castle, located in Montargis in the Loiret department, have been a listed historical monument since 1908. These remains, now owned by the commune, have been transported to the public garden of the city hall, where they are preserved as evidence of the local heritage. Their current location, although distinct from their original location, allows easy accessibility for visitors and residents.
The classification of the ruins by decree of 11 December 1908 underlines their heritage importance. Although little detailed information is available on their initial history, their presence in a public space reflects a desire to preserve and enhance the medieval or ancient past of the region. These remains, though fragmentary, recall the existence of a fortress or seigneurial building that marked local history.
The location of the ruins, noted with satisfactory accuracy (level 7/10), corresponds to the approximate address of the public garden of Montargis, near the rue du Faubourg de la Chaussée. Their status as a Historical Monument and their integration into a communal area make it a central element of the urban landscape, while questioning their original function and appearance, now partially erased by time.
