Origin and history
The church Saint-Barthélémy d'Orchaise, located in the municipality of the same name in the region Centre-Val de Loire, is a monument whose origin dates mainly from the thirteenth century. Today, the old church remains only the bell tower, composed of a background wall of the choir and four foothills supporting a structure of slate-covered structure. This bell tower, built in corbellation, preserves significant architectural traces of this time, such as an arch and columns supporting the departures of the vaults.
The bell tower and the western façade of the church have been protected under the Historical Monuments since a decree of 21 September 1961. This classification specifically concerns the facade and the old wooden bell tower, which are the oldest and most emblematic elements of the building. The property belongs to the commune of Orchaise, in the department of Loir-et-Cher, under the code Insee 41142. The exact location of the church is indicated as the Church Square, although GPS coordinates suggest an approximation.
The church Saint-Barthélémy illustrates the medieval religious architecture of the region, with typical features of 13th century buildings. The wooden bell tower, rare for this period, bears witness to local construction techniques and adaptations made over the centuries. Although little information is available on its current use, its status as Historic Monument underlines its heritage and cultural importance for the municipality and the region Centre-Val de Loire.
