Origin and history

The Saint-Georges church in Villedieu is a Roman Catholic building built in the 12th century. Located in the former municipality of Villedieu-en-Champagne, today integrated in Chantenay-Villedieu (Sarthe, Pays de la Loire), it is distinguished by its modest dimensions and its hundred-year-old box driveway. Its furniture, sold at the beginning of the 20th century, has now disappeared, leaving a stripped space.

The building was listed as historic monuments by order of 13 September 1984. Currently in restoration thanks to the Chantenay Heritage Association, it bears witness to local efforts to preserve this medieval heritage. The property now belongs to an association, although its access and uses (visits, events) are not specified in the available sources.

The archives mention its classification in the historical monuments lists of the Sarthe, stressing its regional importance. Merimée data and resources such as Clochers de France or Monumentum confirm its protected status, while noting an approximate geographical location (accuracy noted 5/10).
