Origin and history
The Saint-Paban church of Lababan, located in the commune of Pouldreuzic (Finistère), is a historical monument whose origins date mainly back to the sixteenth century. Its architecture reflects stylistic influences of this period, with subsequent additions such as the bell tower, erected in 1676. The older southern porch dates back to the 15th century, showing a gradual construction over several decades. The glass mistress, dated 1573, illustrates the glass art of the Breton Renaissance, while a 16th century cross completes the heritage complex.
The church bell tower, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 4 February 1926, constitutes the protected element of the site. The location of the building at 6 Rue de Croas Vao is approximate, with a geographical accuracy considered fair (level 5/10). Owned by the commune of Pouldreuzic, the church is part of a rural Breton context where religious buildings played a central role in community life, both spiritually and socially. Available sources, including Monumentum, confirm its status as a local heritage.
The history of the Church of St.Paban is part of the larger Church of Finistère, an area marked in the 16th century by architectural transformations and artistic vitality, especially in the area of stained glass and religious sculptures. The presence of a 16th century cross and a 15th century porch suggests a cultural continuity and an adaptation of styles over time. Although details of sponsors or artisans remain unknown, these elements attest to the importance of the place in the Breton religious landscape.
