The forest post: registration by decree of 14 September 1949
Origin and history
The forest post of Saint-Pierre-en-Chastres is a monument located in the commune of Vieux-Moulin, in the department of l'Oise (60), in the Hauts-de-France region. This building, listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 14 September 1949, illustrates the architecture related to forest management, a major historical activity in this wooded region of northern France. Its location, although documented, remains approximate according to available sources, with an accuracy assessed as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10).
In the countryside of Hauts-de-France, and particularly in Oise, forest posts played a central role in the organisation of forested spaces in the 20th century and before. These buildings served as monitoring points, lodges for forest guards, or storage places for tools and records related to sustainable forest use. Their presence reflects the economic and ecological importance of the forest massifs, such as that of Compiègne nearby, as well as their integration into the daily life of rural communities.
These monuments, often discreet, bear witness to a utilitarian and symbolic heritage linked to the preservation of natural resources.
