Origin and history
The church of Saint-Rémy de Brazey-en-Plaine, located in the Côte-d'Or department in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is a Catholic religious building built during the first half of the 19th century. It is distinguished by its neo-classical architecture, incorporating elements inspired by the Renaissance, such as its monumental facade with a porch opened by an arcade in the middle of a hanger and a loggia with columns surmounted by a balustrade. The belfry, decorated with pilasters, completes this harmonious architectural ensemble.
Construction of the church was entrusted to architect Pierre-Paul Petit in 1835 and completed in 1840. However, a collapse of the vault in 1848 required partial reconstruction a few years later. The building adopts a form of Latin cross, with a nave accompanied by two collaterals, typical of the churches of this period.
Saint-Rémy Church is home to a wealth of furniture, including seven 17th-century paintings listed or listed in the historical monuments inventory. It also had a choir organ built in 1864 by Jean-Frédéric Verschneider, originally installed in the church of Saint-Denis de Nuits-Saint-Georges before being acquired by the parish of Brazey-en-Plaine in 1879. The entire building has been classified as historic monuments since 10 March 1995.
The precise location of the church is indicated as being at 1 Rue Chanoine Bonnard, in the municipality of Brazey-en-Plaine. Its architecture and furniture are an important testimony to the region's religious and artistic heritage, reflecting both neo-classical influences and local traditions of church construction.
