In the Middle Ages, churches like Saint-Vivian played a central role in the lives of rural communities. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, marking social, religious and sometimes political events. In Charente-Maritime, this era was marked by a mainly agricultural economy and growing trade, thanks in particular to the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean.
