The coffee room (cad. C 13): registration by order of 6 August 1956
Origin and history
The Directoire style coffee room, located at 20 boulevard Carnot at Puy-en-Velay, is integrated into a building built in the early 19th century, specifically during the 1st quarter of this period. This building is distinguished by a grid and balcony in the style of Directionoire, as well as by balconies inspired by the Louis XV style. Although the original front door disappeared in favor of a modern version, the interior once retained an exceptional set of finely carved panels in bas-relief. These decorations included Corinthian columns supporting yousures, whose impostes and scabs were decorated with stuccos evoking general or seasonal themes.
The building was partially protected as a Historic Monument by a decree of 21 March 1957, specifically concerning the former café room (cadastre B 343). The remarkable elements, such as paneling and studded decorations, reflect a refined craftsmanship typical of the Directory period, although their current condition is not specified in the available sources. The location at Puy-en-Velay, in Haute-Loire (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), places this monument in an urban context marked by eclectic architecture, mixing neoclassical influences and legacy of previous centuries.
The accuracy of the location is considered poor (note 5/10), with an address confirmed by the Merimée base but approximate GPS coordinates. No information is provided on current public access, whether visitation, room rental or other services. Sources are limited to Monumentum data and internal archives, without reference to recent restorations or contemporary uses of the site.
