Origin and history
The Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Andel is a Catholic building located in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany. It is distinguished by its architectural history combining several epochs, with a major reconstruction in the middle of the eighteenth century.
The current building was rebuilt in 1757, but retains a porch dating back to 1591, from the old church. This mix of styles reflects architectural developments and the need to preserve local heritage. The restoration work continued in the 19th century, with the reinforcement of the walls in 1845 and a complete restoration in 1878, led by the young entrepreneur Vaiva, based in Lamballe.
On the architectural level, the church has notable features, such as the capitals of columns decorated with heads with spiral ears. Its campanile houses three bells, and its porch, supported by two pilasters, has a characteristic pediment. These elements reflect both local artistic influences and traditional construction techniques.
The church is part of the Breton religious landscape, under the authority of the diocese of Saint-Brieuc and Tréguier. It illustrates the central role of parish churches in community life, serving as a place of worship, gathering and collective memory for the inhabitants of Andel and the surrounding area.
