Origin and history

The church of Saint-Remy de Roberval succeeds a 9th century Carolingian chapel, the object of a conflict between the bishops of Beauvais and Soissons. The present nave, of primitive Gothic style, dates from the late 12th century, while the choir and double transept, characteristic of the flamboyant Gothic, were rebuilt in the 16th century under the impulse of Jean-François de La Rocque de Roberval, Protestant lord. The building preserves re-used Romanesque elements, such as capitals and column bases, as well as a Western gate with triple yousure hidden under a Renaissance porch.

The eastern parts, completed around 1538, are distinguished by their interior elegance: wavy pillars, large windows with flamboyant networks and arches of warheads decorated with carved keys. The Renaissance window of the southern crusillon, classified as a historical monument, illustrates scenes of the Life of the Virgin and Christ, restored in 1880. The church, damaged during the Revolution, was the subject of a major restoration campaign between 1866 and 1884, including the reconstruction of the structure and the pavement.

The building features a distinctive silhouette with three pinions of increasing height (porch, nave, choir) and an unfinished steeple, reflecting 16th century architectural ambitions. Inside, the un arched nave contrasts with the richness of the eastern parts, where Renaissance influences blend with late Gothic. A 16th century funeral slab in the porch commemorates Aloph Climer, captain of the gunners under François I, linked to the seigneurial family of Roberval.

Ranked a historic monument in 1933, the church now depends on the parish of Sainte-Maxence in Pont-Sainte-Maxence. Masses are celebrated monthly, perpetuating its cultural role in a village marked by medieval and Renaissance history. Its furniture also includes Gothic baptismal fonts, a statue of Saint Rémi from the 16th or 17th century, and a Baroque confessional, reflecting artistic and liturgical developments throughout the centuries.
