Famille Sauvant - Owners and builders

Origin and history
The Sauvan Hotel, also known as the Choisity Hotel, is an iconic building located in Aramon, Gard. Built in the seventeenth century, it is representative of the civil architecture of this period, with an organization around a trapezoidal inner courtyard. Three wings of the building are dedicated to the seigneurial house, while the fourth houses the commons. The facades, decorated with pilasters extending over their entire height, illustrate a superposition of the classical architectural orders: Tuscan on the ground floor, Corinthian on the noble and composite floor on the attic floor.
The Sauvant family, originally from Italy, is at the origin of this residence, the first traces of which date back to the end of the 13th century, although the present building is mainly the result of restorations undertaken from 1595 onwards. The main entrance, marked by an archvolt and a broken curved pediment, bears the stigmas of the French Revolution, with a hammered cartridge dating from after 1635. Inside, the south-east vestibule is distinguished by its three flat vaults, while the interior staircase, with a stone baluster ramp, has been one of the protected elements since the 1976 classification.
The Sauvan Hotel embodies the architectural heritage of the Gard and bears witness to the Italian stylistic influences introduced by its first owners. Its designation as historic monuments in 1976 underlines its importance in the cultural landscape of the Occitanie region, while preserving remarkable elements such as its facades and staircase. Today, there remains a significant example of the aristocratic homes of the modern period, mixing residential functions and power symbols.
