Origin and history
The château Grilllot is a civilian building located in Champlitte, in the department of Haute-Saône, in the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Built in the 16th century, it represents an example of Renaissance architecture in this rural area, marked by a transition between the Middle Ages and the modern era. Its designation as historic monuments in 1991 protected its facades, roofs and interior chimneys, demonstrating its heritage interest.
During the Renaissance, the Haute-Saône, then integrated into the Franche-Comté, was a mainly agricultural and artisanal region, where castles often served as residences for noble or bourgeois local families. These buildings played a central role in social organization, sometimes hosting administrative or judicial activities. The château Grillot, by its location in the city centre (14 rue du Marché), could also be linked to the commercial exchanges of Champlitte, a dynamic village at that time.
The protected elements of the castle, such as the fireplaces of the South-East Hall and the bedrooms, reflect the characteristic interior features of the wealthy 16th century houses. The absence of detailed sources on its owners or its exact function limits the knowledge of its specific history, but its inscription in 1991 underscores its architectural and historical value to the local heritage.
