Philippe Dauchel - Owner and enhancer of the estate
The farm was developed in the 18th century.
Origin and history
The Château de La Palme, located in Nortkirk in the Hauts-de-France, dates from the 18th century. This historic monument is distinguished by its architecture and its integration into an agricultural estate, whose operation was significantly improved by a member of the family owner, Philippe Dauchel, born in 1752. The work carried out under his impulse allowed to structure and optimize agricultural activities, thus marking the development of the site during the 18th century and beyond.
From 1885, the castle park was renovated on a large square plot, forming an arboretum inspired by English properties. Massifs of trees, including broad leafed elms, were planted to create an illusion of continuity between the park and the surrounding countryside. An artesian well, dug in 1819, fed a piece of water, adding a landscape and functional dimension to the estate. These accommodations reflect the influence of English gardens and the importance attached to aesthetics and utility.
The castle and its outbuildings, including facades, roofs, greenhouse, barn, communes, as well as the park in its entirety, were inscribed in the Historic Monuments by order of 30 December 2010. This protection recognizes the heritage value of the site, both for its architecture and for its history related to agriculture and landscaping. The estate thus illustrates the evolution of rural properties in France, between farm and aristocratic residence.
