Origin and history
The Château de Saint-Aubin is a building erected in 1900 on a virgin site in the commune of Plédéliac, in the Côtes-d'Armor department. It is built for the Palluel family, probably in connection with the management of a forest massif of 1,200 hectares and cynegetic activities. The estate includes nearby farms and remains of the former Cistercian abbey of Saint-Aubin-des-Bois, of which old dwellings remain.
The castle consists of several buildings, surrounded by a park and a wooded estate covered by avenues. An orangery is attached to the southern façade of the house, while the communes, built of stone and brick, house a terracotta-curry hunt, carried out in the workshops of the neighbouring village of La Poterie. The entrance door bears the date of construction (1900) and the weapons of the Palluel family on the north facade.
In 1904, the estate passed through marriage to the family of Guényveau. The castle is listed in the general inventory of cultural heritage, highlighting its architectural and historical interest. Its location reflects both a desire for forest management and a place of relaxation linked to hunting, typical of the aristocratic residences of the time in Brittany.
