Origin and history

The castle of Tiregand, located in Creysse in Dordogne (New Aquitaine), has its origins in the 13th century with a first building attributed to Edward Tyrgan, natural son of Henry III of England. In 1575, the castle was the scene of a major episode of the War of Religion: the relics of Saint Front, stolen by the Huguenots in Périgueux, were transported there before being thrown into the Dordogne.

The present castle was built in the 18th century under the impulse of Jean Charles d'Augeard, president of the Parliament of Bordeaux, while the Old Castel was transformed into a cellar. In 1826 the estate was acquired by Count Alexandre César de La Panouse, Member of Parliament for Paris, who died there in 1836. His son, César Armand Anatole de La Panouse, enlarged the oriental house and placed the family coat of arms there.

In the 20th century, the castle passed by successive alliances to the families of Boutray and then Saint-Exupéry. In 2022, the Guyot family, already owner of the castles of Bridoire and Marzac, acquired some of them, including 40 hectares of land. The estate, partially classified as a historic monument in 2002, produces Pecharmant wine and has opened its gardens to the public since 2022.

The castle consists of two juxtaposed houses (18th and 19th centuries), surrounded by pavilions and surrounded by dried moat. The communes and stables, adjacent to the north, complete the architectural ensemble. The park, overlooking the 40-metre valley, extends over 406 hectares, 43 of which are dedicated to the vineyard.

Private property, the castle of Tiregand combines historical heritage and wine-growing activity. Its partial opening to the public since 2022 allows you to discover its terraces, gardens and part of the buildings, while preserving its residential and agricultural use.
