Origin and history
The Château de Carron, located in Francin in the commune of Porte-de-Savoie (Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), is a former hunting event built in the 4th quarter of the 18th century. The building, partially inscribed in historical monuments since 1989, illustrates architecture and the aristocratic uses of the period, mixing cynegetic function and residence of pleasure. Its park, combining romantic style and garden with French, reflects the landscape influences of the Enlightenment century.
The castle was built in 1768 by Baron Joseph Rambert de Châtillon, then President of the Savoy Senate, marking his anchor in the local political elite. In 1808 he became the property of the general of Empire Pierre Decuz, hero of the battles of Aboukir, Austerlitz and Wagram. Since then, the house has remained in its progeny, which ensures its preservation and openness to the public, offering an intact testimony of this Savoyard heritage.
The partial inscription of historic monuments, limited to the dining room (Order of 30 January 1989), underscores the heritage value of certain interior spaces. The site, still inhabited and maintained by the heirs of General Decouz, offers visits to discover its history, architecture and gardens, classified among the remarkable elements of the Savoie department.
