Origin and history
Falfas Castle, located in Bayon-sur-Gironde in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, is a 17th-century building. It replaces an earlier building and stands out for its body of rectangular houses, accompanied by two square pavilions at the southwest and northeast angles. The interior façades of these pavilions feature notable decorative elements, such as an entrance door topped by a steeple and sill windows. The lintels of these windows are supported by carved consoles representing masks or human faces, testifying to artistic know-how of the time.
Ranked a Historic Monument, Falfas Castle was fully protected by order of 3 January 2008. It is now owned by a private company. Although its current use (visits, room rental, guest rooms) is not specified in the sources, its architecture and sculptural details make it an example of the seigneurial or bourgeois houses of the region in the seventeenth century.
The location of the castle, indicated as approximate (accuracy estimated at 5/10), the place on the road from Coudart to Bayon-sur-Gironde, in the department of Gironde. This sector, marked by a wine and commercial history linked to the Gironde estuary, has seen the development of many such residences, reflecting the local prosperity and artistic influences of the modern era.
