Origin and history
The Château de Grandchamp is a building from the beginning of the 17th century, located in the department of Yonne, in the commune of Grandchamp, now attached to Charny Orée de Puisaye. Ranked as historical monuments in 1949, it illustrates the aristocratic residential architecture of this period, with protected elements such as its facades, roofs, moat and dove.
The official protection of the castle, which took place by order of 8 March 1949, specifically covers the old part of the building, its communes, as well as external amenities such as aisle d'eau and the entrance courtyard. These characteristics suggest a seigneurial set typical of pre-revolutionary Burgundy, marked by a hierarchical spatial organization and functional dependencies.
Although the sources mention lords and post-Revolution owners, no specific names are mentioned in the available documents. The castle, now located at 85 Le Château à Charny Orée de Puisaye, retains a recognized heritage value, as evidenced by its record in the Merimée base and its ranking among the historical monuments of the Yonne.
