Facades and roofs of the castle and the former dovecote (Box B 78): inscription by decree of 20 April 1979
Origin and history
The château de Hédauville is an 18th-century building located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of the Somme, in the Hauts-de-France region. This monument, whose facades and roofs have been inscribed in the Historical Monuments since 1979, bears witness to the civil architecture of this period. The former pigeon-house, also protected, recalls the importance of dependencies in the seigneurial or bourgeois domains of the era.
The location of the castle at 4 Rue de l'Eglise is attested by data from the Merimée database and GPS coordinates. Although the accuracy of this location is considered satisfactory (note 6/10), it clearly identifies the site in the village of Hedauville. The Insee code of the commune (80425) confirms its membership in the district of Amiens and the former Picardie region, which is now part of the Hauts-de-France.
No information is available on the precise origins of its construction, its historical owners, or its initial use. The sources are limited to partial protection in 1979 and location. The castle, like many 18th-century rural buildings, could serve as a residence for an affluent family, or play a role in the local economic organization, especially through its outbuildings such as the dovecote, symbol of seigneurial rights.
Current data do not mention whether the castle is open to visit, converted into guest rooms, or used for private events. Its state of conservation and contemporary functions are not documented in the sources consulted (Monumentum, Mérimée base).
