Origin and history

The Château de Roquefère is a building located in the commune of Roquefère, in the department of Aude, in the Occitanie region. Although little precise information is available on its history, its listing as historic monuments in 1985 underscores its heritage importance to the region. The castles of this region, often built between the Middle Ages and the modern era, served both as seigneurial residences and defence points.

In Aude, these monuments reflect feudal history and local dynamics, marked by agriculture, trade and territorial conflicts. Roquefère, like other Occitan villages, was probably influenced by these socio-economic realities.
