Origin and history
The Château de Saulon is a 16th century building located in Saulon-la-Rue, in the department of Côte-d-Or, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. It covers a 27-hectare estate and was partially rebuilt at the end of the 17th century. Today, it houses a 4-star hotel-restaurant, combining historical heritage and high-end services.
The castle embodies Renaissance aristocratic residential architecture, typical of the region. These buildings often served as secondary residences for noble families, while playing a local economic role through the exploitation of surrounding lands. Their transformation into hotel establishments, as here, helps preserve the heritage while adapting to contemporary uses.
Burgundy-Franche-Comté, rich in castles, illustrates the importance of these monuments in regional history. The Château de Saulon is part of this tradition, while being distinguished by its current operation in the luxury hotel sector, a model for valuing architectural heritage.
