Origin and history
The Château de Septfonds is an 18th-century building located in the commune of Trelissac, Dordogne (New Aquitaine). Built under Louis XV, it was commanded by Bernard Faure de Rochefort and his wife Françoise Léonarde du Cluzel de la Chabrerie. The architect Victor Louis, known for having made the great theatre of Bordeaux, drew up its plans. The castle is distinguished by a rectangular plan, with a main façade with a light central forebody and a rear façade marked by an advance decorated with rounded openings.
The chapel of the castle, later added, dates back to the 1830s. The ensemble, including its facades and roofs, was listed as historical monuments on December 16, 1947. The castle is located in central Périgord, close to the Land Forest of Lanmary, and its exact address is referenced as 1043 Sept Fonds in Trélissac. Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as an emblematic monument of the region.
The Château de Septfonds illustrates the classic architecture of the 18th century in Périgord, combining elegance and functionality. Its inscription in historical monuments underscores its heritage value, while its location near a state forest and a departmental road makes it a point of interest both cultural and geographical. No information is available about its current access to the public or its contemporary uses (visits, events, accommodation).
